I’m not quite sure what to make of my street photography made with the E-PL1. I love the “pen and a pancake” concept, and also love how it lets me get really close to the subjects, much closer than I do with the 85mm or 135mm lenses I use with a Nikon body. But even though the lens I use in this kit is a fast f/1.7 prime, it doesn’t create the bokeh that has more or less been my signature look. I like them, but I think I’m diluting my brand, so to speak. Ultimately I suppose I shouldn’t worry about that and just take and publish stuff I like.

18 Jul 2010Hi Eric. Thanks for your comments, which I just noticed were caught in the spam catcher for some reason. Sorry about that. Thanks for stopping by and for for the feedback. I get as close as I dare. 🙂

21 Jul 2010Hi Mark!
I have looked through your street photos you did with your E-PL1, and I really like them.
The 20 mm force you to get nearer, but IMHO the end result profits from this fact, because you get a wider angle and you see more things/people in the picture.
The downside of this short focal length is the missing bokeh due to the larger depth of field.
However, as you have said yourself – don’t worry about any signature looks etc.! Do what you want, don’t limit yourself.
After all – this should be fun, too. 😉
Keep up the good work!
