In Memoriam

I happened to be walking in Bushwick a little over a week ago when I came across this memorial in a small plot of land known as Heisser Triangle, formed by the three intersection of Knickerbocker Avenue, Myrtle Avenue and Bleecker Street.* This is a shot I took and shared with the Instagram App on my iPhone, and I knew I had my memorial day photograph ready to go. The inscription on the pedestal reads: “To the memory of the Bushwick-Ridgewood boys who served in the World War 1917-1918.” A WWI canon once also stood here, but it was melted for scrap metal to make new arms in WWII.

* That’s Bleecker Street in Brooklyn, which is unconnected to the Manhattan version.
