About halfway through our photowalk last Saturday walk we passed 5Pointz, a free outdoor graffiti art exhibit, and the good folks there were very gracious to us. The folks from 5Pointz made it clear to us that we were welcome to take pictures, and asked only that if we posted them online we describe the place and link to their website, which I am doing. In fact, I am intentionally posting only a tiny flavor of the place, and no pictures of complete graffiti pieces, in the hopes of whetting your appetite and interest and getting you to visit.
My understanding is that regular visitors can take photographs freely. If you do visit, they have rules about photography that you need to respect. Most importantly, you CANNOT photograph any artist who happens to be working that day without his or her express permission. Second, the website, and signs outside the building, indicate that you need permission for “photo shoots” and in context, this appears to mean commercial shoots with big equipment, or models, or wedding photographers with clients, etc. But as I said, I believe a non-commercial visitor is free to shoot. If you see someone there, and there often is someone about, just go ahead and ask. They are friendly folk, although usually seem busy, so be patient. And if you are lucky enough to see an artist at work, go up and talk. If they are too bust they will let you know, and if not, you might make a feiend and get some great photos.

8 Oct 2011Excellent stuff! This kind of thing is right up my street, as you well know. 😉
Could almost be one of the backstreet in my town. Love the explosion of colour at the top and showing the reflection is nice too. I may have chopped the sky portion off and just gone for a square crop. Just my preference though. Top notch! Thanks for showing us this.
