I have trouble finding interesting subjects to shoot in my home neighborhood. I don’t know if it’s my mindset or if the area actually lacks for subjects, but I suspect it is the former. Among the few interesting sites are the many cemeteries that circle my neighborhood, and even there it seems there are only so many ways you can cover that ground. Still, yesterday there was some amazing ground fog, and I haven’t actually shot the cemetaries in fog yet, so I grabbed a couple of shots while walking to the subway yesterday morning.
The processing of this was simple but interesting. Apart from a bit of added sharpening and detail, all I did was move the saturation slider in Aperture all the way to the left. Even with the saturation at 0, it creates a different look than hitting the “Black and White” Adjustment, and that is something to keep in mind.

7 Dec 2011Terrific find, Great image. I know what you mean about finding interesting subjects near home. I think we see stuff every day and we get so used to it we might miss stuff right in front of us. I’m sort of in that place right now where I’m finding it hard to go shoot because I can’t think of anything ‘interesting’ to shoot. Hopefully it’s just a phase.
