Coney Island Black and White Winter 2012 – Surf Avenue

I posted a nearly identical image in color 2 weeks ago.  I do not remember the details of shooting both images, but based on the shadow patterns being nearly identical, I must have shot them one immediately after the other (I was carrying two film cameras, one stocked with color and the other with black and white), so I’m at a loss to figure out how this image has 2 people in it and the other is completely devoid of any people. While I am always willing to wait out such situations to try to get a shot with nobody in it, I don’t think I could have stood in the middle of the street long enough. Although there were no cars visible here, there was a steady enough flow of sporadic traffic that morning.

In any event, I find the slight variations create a very different mood, so I have no qualms about posting two very similar images, and a few of my Coney Island Series scenes might show up more than once.

  1. Great series Mark, you need to put these together in a book!

    1. Thanks, Mike. I’ve been thinking about a book, maybe something small format to keep cost down, and maybe shook option also if I can figure out how to work that.

  2. Great shot Mark. I bet this scene looks very different in the summer.

  3. Really nice image here Mark. This has a timeless feel to it. Looked at the other one as well. They are both outstanding. 😉

  4. Great shot! :)It really looks so interesting..
