It is possible that my earliest memory is from the World’s Fair, which ran in 1964 and 1965, when I was 2 and 3. I remember that my family went, and left me home, probably with an aunt. I believe they also might have taken one of my cousins. What I remember was that I wanted to go, and was told that it wasn’t for little kids. From what I know now, that was probably right.
But at the time, I was having none of it, and my distinct memory is that when I saw the movies my father took, and they included an appearance by Mickey Mouse, I felt I had been bamboozled. How could it not be for little kids if Mickey Mouse was there? Today of course the Unisphere is a generally recognized symbol of Queens, where I live. I oddly had no photos of it until recently, so last weekend I went to Flushing Meadows Park and grabbed a bunch.
This was taken with a Holga plastic lens on my Nikon D700.

20 Apr 2012Dude, seriously! You nailed the old time feel so perfectly with this. You also made me realize just how much I need to take the Holga with me on my upcoming vacation!
