WDW Walt Disney World Resort Panorama and The Automated Workflow

Disney World Epcot Resorts Panorama - Boardwalk Resort, Yacht Club, and Beach Club

This is a panoramic view of the Epcot Resort Area, with views of the Boardwalk Resort, Yacht Club, and Beach Club Resort, taken from the Boardwalk Resort area.

I took this with my Fuji x100s, which has a panoramic feature, but I did not use that capability to create this image.  The reason for that is that the x100s also has a great Pop Color filter, that enhances both color and contrast, which cannot be combined with the panorama feature. The Pop Color filter is not for most shots, but it handled this scene and early morning lighting perfectly. So here is what I did to automate the creation of this image as much as possible. First, I took 3 or 4 shots of the scene, moving from left to right and leaving a substantial overlap between each image. Then I made sure that my Eye-Fi Mobi 16GB Wireless Memory Card was connected to my iPhone, so that the images automatically transferred to the phone’s Camera Roll. From there, it was even more automatic: the iPhone uploaded the images to  my Google Plus profile, visible only to myself thanks to settings I had already input to the G+ app on the phone. Then Google Plus recognized the overlap in the images and its “Auto Awesome” feature automatically created the panorama with no input from me.

All I had to do was get home, download the image, and reload it to my galleries on Smugmug for display here. Actually I suppose I could have hotlinked to the image directly on G+ but that’s just not my way. But overall, this is amazing. I let the camera preset filter do the basic processing, then used some wifi magic to transfer the image to my phone, which then automatically transferred it to a free online service that not only stores the mages but also does automatic processing to create a panorama with no effort from me. And I am completely satisfied with the result.  Some of the G+ Auto-Awesome effects are rather gimmicky, but the panorama feature is truly awesome.
