East River Sculls

East River Sculls

I was out in Gantry Plaza State park with Rick Louie when I saw this group of rowers heading down the East River in their single sculls. I had no time to adjust any settings on my camera that was set to take motionless landscape shots and barely had a chance to even compose the frame as they were moving surprisingly fast.  I ended up with a too-slow shutter speed than I would have intended that introduced a slight blur to the sculls and rowers, who were also somewhat underlit. But I took what I had and went with it when processing the image.

Oddly, the yello crown of lights at the top of the building on the right resisted all efforts to desaturate it, making it look as if I employed selective color. In fact, I desaturated it about 50% more than the rest of the image an it still stands out. I could have pushed it all the way but I decided its defiance deserved some recognition.
