Thirteenth and Bridge Graffiti Wall

This appears to be authorized graffiti art on a building at the corner of Thirteenth Street and Queens Plaza South. The curving overpass is for an exit ramp off the Queensboro Bridge, which has a complicated set of access and exit points on the Queens side. I kept the processing pretty clean and simple, although I brushed in some Bleach Bypass from Nik Color Efex on the graffiti walls themselves. Other than that, I applied the Kodachrome 64 effect, also from Nik Color Efex, and the Pro Contrast filter to improve the color cast. I also used Nik’s Viveza 2 to selectively add saturation and structure to the sky and clouds.

  1. Love the clarity and those vibrant colours!

  2. I’m enjoying the contrasting colors on the walls. I like how the main wall in this shot has such bright graffiti work, while the wall exiting the frame on the left has some dark work on it. Great job on this shot!

  3. I love your image today, Mark! The lines you’ve composed lead us through the scene and allow us to soak in the details in some of the more subtle elements that make this a complete image. Love it, my friend, great capture!!

  6. Great image. Love the color of the graffiti on the wall.

  7. Awesome perspective & processing. Why do you think this graffiti is authorized?

    1. Thanks all for the positive feedback and support.
John, the main reason I think the graffiti is authorized is the lettering which you can maybe make out here in orange to the right of the door. It says “Art Info,” followed by a telephone number. Second, none of the graffiti is done over other graffiti. It is all very clean. Also, the material to the left of the photograph is all fairly high quality. The face you see on the left edge is fairly representative. Finally, it’s all more complex than just a tag, where some idiot writes their name or nickname, like you can see on the base of the side of the bridge support to the right.

  8. Great shot, I love how the colors just pop out at you.
