But That Don’t Worry Me None, In My Eyes You’re Everything

I considered calling this “Sunshine Is The Best Disinfectant” to capture the play between the sun hitting the corne of the building in the back and the Antiseptic Soap advertisement on the side of the brick building on the right, but instead I chose the song reference, which also calls to the morning sun on the aged buildings.

This was taken on West Broadway at Duane Street, looking roughly West by South-West.  The further buildings are on Hudson Street

This was shot with the 50mm prime, which is becoming a new go-to lens for me when shooting buildings.  Previously I would have done this with the 14-24mm super wide, which I used for nearly all city and architectural work unless I really wanted to get close and detailed, but I’m learning when to switch beween the two. The processing was pretty simple: (1) Photomatix, with just a few tweaks off the default settings, (2) Lucis Pro to add sharpness and detail to the architecture, (3) Nik Color Efex’s Glamour Glow to re-soften things back up a bit.

Also I purposefully allowed the sun-kissed corner of that back building to remain somewhat blown-out because that’s how it looked.

  1. It never ceases to amaze me how many buildings can be crammed into a space in that town! Great shot Mark. Love the range of colors and tones.
