Once Upon A Time… [Central Park Infrared]

This reminds me of those European folk tales where there is a deceptively cozy cottage situated inexplicably in the middle of a brooding forest, except the cottage is a dual-towered apartment building. And I don’t know whether if you went to this building, would you find a witch, a wolf, an imp, a dwarf, a princess-in-hiding, a prince in captivity, or a troll.

In truth the building sits on Central Park West and this infrared shot was taken from the Sheep’s Meadow section of Central Park.

A new edition of the HDR collaboration in which I participate is up and the latest set of images can be seen at Scott Frederick’s blog here. Scott gave us a great set of brackets to work with.

  1. Very true Mark, this does look like one of those old European castles in the middle of a forest. Very cool eye! I guessing trolls are in there, though. Just a guess. Nice work with the IR, too.

  2. If you hadn’t said anything, I would have assumed you traveled over seas for this shot. Diggin it!

  3. Wow, what a great shot! Love Sheeps’s Meadow on a nice day, but don’t remember seeing this angle!

  4. Cool shot. I would suspect that you may find all of the above lurking the halls of that building. 🙂

    1. Hi Alistair. As best as I can tell, this is not the Ghostbusters building, although you can find images and video of this building that are labeled the Ghostbusters building all over the web.

According to Wikipedia and other reasonably reliable sources, the Ghostbusters building is 55 Central Park West, which has only one tower and is located between 65th and 66th Street. This building is located at about 80th Street.

I was probably a good mile away from the building, while the trees were probably between a mere 100 and 200 yards from me. The compression of a long lens, 200mm on a crop sensor, helped to create part of the illusion, which results from the trees and the building being out of scale.

  5. Very nice!
Sure gas a storybook look and feel to it. Had no idea that was in Central Park. :-). Sweet!
