Subtlety

This is probably the least ostentatious piece of artwork in the Caesers Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. I quite like it, including the way the image is broken into 4 pieces, creating black horizontal lines across the statue’s face. It would probably not be considered subtle in any other context, but here, it earns the term.

It was particularly amusing to come to Caesers less than two weeks after visiting the antiquities sections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

  1. Ok, while I like the framing and the marble texture, I am hooked on how the reflection on the right provides some symmetry to the painting (the black framed by the white border). I dunno if that was intentional or not, but it’s messin with my mind man.

    1. Thanks, Chris. I think I’m going to go with “subconsciously intentional.” 🙂

  2. What a terrific composition Mark. I love the subdued colors that really set a mood much unlike everything else in Vegas

  3. This is a very cool shot. I like the pov you chose, as the reflections and light add so much to the image.

  4. Remarkable capture Mark! The softness of the lighting and the tones are a wonderful contrast for the hardness of the stone.

  5. It is almost like in a 3D gane

  6. This is a great shot. I like the way it opens up for interpretations – and the almost high key graphic quality. Beautiful colours.

  7. Amazing art! This painting is an art treasure. Though the painting is broken into four pieces, the beauty of this painting is still alive and the broken area is also looking as an art. This painting is reflecting the true picture of art and creativity.

  8. wow Mark that is a cool shot!

  9. This is really, really cool, Mark! LOVE the reflection in the polished marble walls there, too, it really adds so much interest!
