This is a telephoto infrared shot of the Central Park Reservoir, taken from the south-east corner of the reservoir looking west. The buildings you see line Central Park West. My infrared processing is ever an ongoing work in progress, and so I was happy to see this week a tutorial from Scott Wood that included some tips and tricks I was previously unaware of, and I used some of them on this image.
The Central Park Reservoir, officially renamed the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, was a functioning part of the City’s water supply until 1993, when a new viaduct made it unnecessary. Concerns that the water contained in it could be contaminated outweighed its need. A path approximately 1.6 miles in length circles the Central Park reservoir and is heavily used by joggers. It was also featured in the movie Marathon Man.
