Jacob Riis Park (Recovering From Sandy) [And Hey – I’m In A Show!]

Jacob Riis Park (Recovering from Sandy)

All this week I will be featuring shots I took during a couple of outings to the Rockaway Peninsula last month. I went out there to get shots for a specific purpose. A frien who runs a photo studio has decided to run a gallery showing in the space, and invited me to participate:

The theme is to document, hopefully in a pleasingly artistic fashion, the damage and rebuilding on the peninsula, which was slammed pretty hard by Hurricane Sandy. I have already shown some shots I took while out on the peninsula during the past month, and this week will do the same. However, I have not shown and will not post any of the images from the gallery display here. If you want to see them you’ll have to go to the show, which opens this Saturday at 4pm.

Also, most of the images I have posted before today did not address the theme, but today’s image does. At the top of the post is a bench on the boardwalk at Jacob Riis Park, and you can see the sand and silt that has been deposited on the boardwalk but has not been removed yet.
