Revisiting Arches

Revisiting Arches National Park – metaphorically at least.

Arches was the first of the great National Parks that I ever visited in the western United States. I went in 2013 with my nXnw friends. It was amazing, and many of us still consider it the best location we have visited on our annual trips.

The only disappointment of that trip was the near complete absence of any clouds. For photography, you do not want overcast cloudy skies, except for certain specific purposes, but a perfectly clear sky lacks texture, and clouds help with that. Clouds can also provide a varied light palette.

In this image, the sky is cloudless, but the shadows from the arch formations themselves at least provides some varied light patterns to create additional interest.

Stay safe.
Stay healthy.
