clair-V-oyant

I have seen this building and storefront show up on other New York photoblogs. This is the home of Zena and her daughter Sylvia who do psychic readings and related services. I certainly don’t believe in or recommend such practitioners, but I found the scene delightful.  I think I overdid things a bit on processing, layering effect over effect until I got to a point of no return and just kept adding more, to a further point where I think some of them cancelled each other out.

On an unrelated note, and unusual for me, I have a new music recommendation. I like music but pretty much stopped discovering new acts a couple of decades ago, but I recently became aware of a new band from north London called Yuck, whose first album of the same name was just released in the middle of last month, although they released a couple of singles last year.  The band is born in part from the wreckage of the short lived Cajun Dance party.  Their sound is often compared to Sonic Youth, but I’d also throw in the Pixies, and the Feeliesas other precursors. It  sort a of psychedelic grunge power pop, with some slower songs mixed in. Go check out the sample and see if you’re interested.

  1. So many lovely colors. This looks like a really cool store, if you needed a psychic reading of some sort!

  2. Wow, tons of color here Mark! It probably doesn’t hurt to overdo on a subject that is quite unrealistic anyway! Good stuff!

  3. Incredible photo!
I’m loving every single detail of if. Is T-S? Or did you make the effect in photoshop?

    1. It was a T-S lens, Hector. The 24mm. I’ve been using it a lot lately and I’m still learning with it.

  4. I really like today’s image Mark! I think you’ve conveyed the sense of mystique here perfectly with the processing you’ve applied. I love it!
