Another thing I’ve noticed by embarking on this series is that the city takes down the “Raise Plow” signs when spring comes.  It’s not the most exciting revelation, but still, it just seems wasteful.  We really pay someone to go out and install and remove the same sign twice every year?  Why?    The sign does not make any appreciable difference in the beauty of the city when it is up, or when it is removed.  This is reason 2,047,917 why New York city and state are both nearly bankrupt.  Stop this useless activity, and we could save some gas, sell a truck, layoff a couple of  workers, and the public just might start to believe that we could get the city’s finances in order.
