To the left is Castle Clinton, originally a fort that gave Battery Park its name. The newer buildings on the left line Little West Street. My first attempt at framing this shot had the battery set off more to the left, and the camera was aligned to show more of the older Manhattan skyline to the right. Those buildings are more interesting, but this composition is better overall. The fort acts as a foreground element, and the path leads your eye to the buildings on the left, and then it can scan left to right across the skyline.
