Woolworth Building and New York By Gehry

New York by Gehry

Photo of the Woolworth Building and New York by Gehry taken from Brooklyn Bridge Park.

I almost never revisit old images that I previously published on the blog and try to improve them. I think about it a lot but almost never do it. Part of the reason is that as much as my skills and taste have developed, so have my compositional skills. Frankly, a number of my old images are not worth re-processing. This one is, and the funny thing is the original version is not so bad, but I believed I could do better. Besides changes to saturation, color tones, contrast, and such, I went with a square crop, which allows a bit more horizontal space to be displayed, mostly at the cost of sky and a bit of water.

I decided to try a new-ish photo hosting service called Exposure. It is focused on presenting photo narratives. It has a freemium model, so I am playing with it and plan to have a review up in a couple of weeks. My first Narrative post is called Off-Peak, and features the color film images from my visit to Coney Island on a winter morning in January 2012. Please check it out. I think the display parameters they have set up work very well.

Finally, I may or may not miss posting for a day or two. My Aperture library has some fortunately minor corruption. I can live with it as is, but after backing it up I am going to see if some repair attempts can clear it up.  As a result, I might not have access to my image library for a day or two, although I hope it will not come to that.
