Covid Dining

The rule in most of New York state right now is that restaurants can open with 50% capacity for indoor dining. But in New York City (as imposed by the state government), indoor dining is prohibited completely, and will open up to just 25% capacity later this week. This is so even though current case rates in the city are lower than most of the surrounding counties. Meanwhile, many NYC restaurants have built outdoor structures in the street where pseudo-indoor dining is allowed.

At the same time many NY residents are still looking down on Florida for having many fewer restrictions because for a few months in the summer and early fall Florida had a higher case rate than NY, but that state currently has fewer cases per million, a lower hospitalization rate, fewer fatalities, and a much better economy.

The world is going mad and New York is leading the way.
