So apparently NYC is building one of those alien transport machines from the movie Contact, or the gravity drive from the movie Event Horizon. Either way, you will be able to travel outside the galaxy from this platform as soon as the third ring is added. Officially it is an East River viewing pavilion but any fan of mediocre sci-fi will recognize this machine for what it really is.

17 Apr 2011Great post. Really like how the stone railing leads you right to the bridge, which carries you through the rest of the frame. Don’t you hate it when people try to cover up the truth? Cool stuff!

17 Apr 2011Very cool, Mark. Contact came to mind immediately when I looked at the photo as well. Love the blues you’ve gotten in the last couple of shots.

17 Apr 2011I really dig the leading lines of the road taking me into the shot. The colors are great, that blue is almost surreal. Great night image.

17 Apr 2011I totally agree about the leading lines… The way my eyes are moved to the main element of the photo is incredible.

18 Apr 2011Thanks all for the comments; this was a fun shot. I should note that the leading lines effect some of you have noticed was enhanced by my use of a gorillapod instead of a standard tripod, as I was able to center the camera right on this ledge, instead of being a few inches off to the side as would have happened with a tripod.
This was not by design, either. I just took the gorillapod out that day because it is easier to carry in my bag during my commute.
