This is a black and white photograph of the Niagara Mohawk building in Syracuse, lit up with a dark night sky behind it.
Previously seen in color here and here, this image is actually a reworked black and white of one of those looks. The building is lit with multiple colors, which suggests a color treatment, but I’m still rather surprised that I never considered the black and white before I decided to do it last night. It really does sparkle and glow.
This art deco classic building is now owned by National Grid plc, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Niagara Hudson building. It was built in 1932 as the headquarters for what was then the world’s largest electric utility company.
By the way, I’m practicing my black and white conversion skills solely within Aperture at the moment, inspired and informed by this post at RB|Design
Do you have any images that you think work equally well in both color and black and white? Please share with links in the comments.
