Wards Island Bridge At Dawn

Wards Island Bridge at Dawn

The Wards Island Bridge is a vertical lift footbridge that connects Manhattan Island with Wards and Randalls Island,  usable by pedestrians and bicyclists (Wards and Randalls were once separate but have been joined by landfill).   This was taken at dawn this past August, looking north from about 96th Street up the East River. *

I have not done as much dawn photography this year as I did the previous 2-3 years, especially not in NYC.  I very nearly did not go out this particular morning, but I was rewarded for doing so with a beautiful sky, even though once the sun came up the day was rather grey and dreary. I did manage to get several usable shots of the scene visible from this location, taking advantage of conditions that lasted about 15 minutes.

* Or it might be the Harlem River. Frankly I cannot really tell where one begins ant the other ends. It might be the case that everything below Wads/Randalls Island is the East River, and from the Island north it is the Harlem River between Manhattan and Randalls/Wards and the East River between Queens and Randalls/Wards.
